Our eighth committee is CC: Soviet-Afghan War which is an advanced-level committee!
As the calendars showed the second half of 1979,the power structure of the world was changing rapidly. Especially in Afghanistan, the cold winds of the Soviet Union were greatly active over the region. The current government for the era was a communist regime which had been supported by the USSR. However the rapid change in the structure of world also affected the country. The ones who believed that there had to be a change in the regime, eventually increased and stabilized their influence over the country. Increased demand for change, caused different kinds of conflicts. Later on these conflicts led to some series of armed actions even included assassinations of several politicians. The USSR finally decided to take some actions in order to maintain the peace and keep the communist regime active. To make their intentions come true,on 24th of December 1979 the USSR started an operation called “Storm-333”. Military forces of the USSR entered the borders of Afghanistan to protect the order.
In this committee you,the delegates will be at the head of this operation, struggling for the success of the operation. You will have the authority to use all the resources you had at that time in order to maintain the regime.
